24/7 Prayer Movement

Hello my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ =)

With the exams looming up in a few weeks time, hope you all have been able to cope with the workload thus far and have been continuing to walk closely with our heavenly Father. If so, praise the Lord! But for those who have been feeling particularly spiritually dry these past few days, all of us at FireAC will continue to keep you in our prayers =) It's never too late to draw near to the Lord again, for He's always there for His children, waiting for us to open up our hearts to Him =) Remember to persevere in your QTs and prayers!

In light of the upcoming September holiday week, all of us here at FireAC would like to invite YOU, our dear brother/sister in Christ, to join us in a week of prayer during the holidays!

The 24/7 Prayer movement is an international prayer movement dedicated to the aim of glorifying God in prayer. In this ambitious and daunting attempt, different groups from all over the world aim to pray for 24 hours consistently over a whole week, thus culminating in an international worldwide prayer movement where at any one time, at least one person at any part of the world is lifting his or her hands to the Lord in prayer ^^

On our own and relying on our own strength, it is a daunting challenge to take on praying for 24 hours continuously for a week without food or sleep! So how can we follow Jesus' command to "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17)?

There is one way. 24 People.

This 24/7 Prayer Movement needs just 24 people (of course, praise the Lord if there's more ^^), each taking just one hour in a day, in order to have at least one person praying at any  time, any one second, minute hour, in a day. How wonderful is that! To know that at any moment in the day, through any trials or obstacles you are facing, there is a brother or sister out there, praying for you (or with you) at that very moment!

Let's not underestimate the power of prayer today. One inspiring image of the power of persevering prayer goes as such: I looked at a stone cutter hammering away at a rock a hundred times without so much as a crack in it. Yet at the 101st blow it splits into two. I know it was not one blow that did it, but all that had gone before...

We were created to be in a relationship with our heavenly Father. He listens to every word we say to Him, and we are able to come before His awesome presence because of what Christ has done on the cross for us. John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Prayer may not be substitute for action, but it truly is like a beam thrown from a torch into the darkness, lighting the narrow path before us.

Our world now desperately needs prayer. One doesn't need to open the newspaper to guess that. Suicide bombings in Baghdad, unrest in the Middle East, the humanitarian crisis in Darfur... And among us, countless souls who have not yet come to know Christ, our family members, close friends, classmates. The trials that we go through in life everyday, even the smallest of things such as some one we can't stand, a particularly difficult piece of homework, daunting deadlines and assignments... Our heavenly Father cares about all these things, and He alone has the power to help us, and to help the world.

2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

One hour a day for a week. Lifting up our hands to the Lord from home, anywhere, in prayer. Surely this isn't too big a sacrifice of our time to give to the awesome God who created us and all the living things of this earth? =) Let's not forget to give the Lord our first in everything and truly learn to glorify His name in all that we do =)

If you'd like to take up the challenge and devote just one hour a day for a week of the September holidays to pray, do reply to this email,  or approach any one of us friendly FireAC leaders =))) (we're nice people, really =D)
